It’s a rare thing to find Ali Tehami – our head of Computational Design who leads a team of eight – without a smile on his dial. And the same goes for his solution-based mindset; he’s never short of ideas, inspirational office banter or, more importantly, resolving problems (excuse the pun). Read on for more on what makes Ali such a gun in the computational design space.
Describe a day in your life at Resolve Insight…
A typical day for me at Resolve Insight is filled with excitement and opportunities to tackle complex AECO industry challenges, starting with a freshly brewed coffee to jumpstart my problem-solving brain, followed by stand-up meetings with my Melbourne and Brisbane teams in the morning and the Dubai team in the afternoon to discuss projects and products development sprints progress, priorities, and prototype new ideas. I’m always inspired by the passion and talent that each team member brings to the table. Collaborating and prototyping with our other streams to find automations opportunities for increased efficiencies is one of the usual highlights of my day.
What keeps you inspired to continue working in this industry?
I lead a talented team that is focused on pushing the boundaries of AEC technologies. We work on projects that challenge us to think critically, get hands-on with sophisticated solutions, and ultimately revolutionize the way architects, engineers and construction professionals approach their work. I’m passionate about finding innovative solutions to complex design problems and using technology to revolutionize traditional design and construction methodologies. I get an immense sense of satisfaction from helping clients discover the unseen potential and opportunities to push their boundaries, and I am always on the lookout for new challenges to conquer.
What type of projects do you get to work on and enjoy the most?
The projects that I am most passionate about are the ones that require critical thinking, problem-solving, and hands-on engagement to find creative solutions. These projects keep me motivated and inspired, and I love the opportunity to explore new technologies and techniques in computational design. I take great pride in leading my team to success and delivering high-quality, cutting-edge solutions to our clients. We work on a variety of projects, from building apps that speeds up architectural and engineering design and documentation up to 300 times, to creating 3D cloud solutions for streamlined construction site progress tracking, building bespoke BIM automations for large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects, developing sustainability and carbon-offset solutions, to DfMA workflows of highly sophisticated projects and geometries.
What do you love to do outside of work?
When I’m not at work, I love to spend time with my family, go for road trips to explore the great nature of Australia, and never turn down the opportunity to try new coffee shops. my passion for design and technology extends beyond the workplace, and I am constantly seeking new opportunities to learn and grow in emerging construction-technology industry, sharing back to the community and next generations by academic contributions from attending design critique sessions or teaching all about Architecture, Computational Design and Construction Technologies.
